WWDN

Today I decided that being the geek isn't all that bad. I'm still extremely frightened of Fatal Attraction, I still get goosebumps and shed a few tears whenever they do an update on Unsolved Mysteries (even though the show is 10 years old). Being a geek doesn't mean you're a Math nerd who loved high school and all of your teachers. It means you collected rats as a hobby when you were in grammar school and wore those silky, satin jackets with a picture of ALABAMA on the back, or you thought your step-dad's coversion van was cool because it had a plush, quilted seat in the back that folded out into a bed. He also had a tiger tail that he'd clip in the back door on the way to the game and you'd wear orange all the time and play mini-league baseball with all the boys because you wanted one of the tall, older ones to like you. Or you hung out at the gas station and talked about the latest Star Trek rentals at Video King and you collected old quarters and sold them for $1.00 a piece. You might have tried your own blend of tobacco made from oregano and basil along with makeup sponges as filters. You might have liked Edward Scissorhands as a boyfriend in junior high. You may have really enjoyed Revenge of the Nerds and really liked the way Lewis laughed. Sometimes you might stay up late to watch Leave it to Beaver and really like it and wish that you could've dated Wally in high school, or Ward for that matter. Maybe you really liked Goose in Top Gun instead of Maverick or Iceman...or maybe you liked all three and you only told your best friend. You probably had to wear hand me downs in primary school that consisted of Members Only jackets in only the blandest colors available and faded Izod shirts from an older male cousin. The Ranatra Fusca award at O.M. was cooler than getting the overall Divison II award. For some reason the bottle never landed on you at co-ed parties in grammar school. Most likely the little white canvas shoes have blue marker on the heels where you tried to create the Keds tag. I'm guessing you used a character voice when reading aloud in class (even in college). So all in all, if it fits then it fits the geek...the dork...the nerd, whatever. And that's fine by me.
