The old man and myself took on the Vulture Peak trail last weekend. We took the Donk, we took some water, but we didn't take the camera. I've given up any and all hope to produce any kind of "decent" pictorial of our miniscule adventures. So we headed north to Wickenburg and stopped off at the Vulture Peak trail.
It was only a three-hour hike to the saddle, where Donk and I held on to the gear while the old man clambered his way to the top. Three more hikers passed by while we waited and turned around when they saw the trail's deterioration. The view from our rock was spectacular, we could see all the way to Tonopah to the south and Wickenburg to the north. A helicopter flew overhead and startled us as we sunned ourselves on the rock. Finally the old man resurfaced and climbed down to meet us.
He reached the summit and found an even greater view from the top. Since we chose such a clear day to hike, he could see the skyline of Phoenix in the distance. We are novices...amateurs...okay we are just losers who like to be outside, but it was our first real mountain climb and we were proud and completely out of breath. Overall the hike is rather short, only four miles round trip but well worth it to the 3,658 foot peak.
P.S. If anyone is interested, my hiking boots are now for sale, check them here!
