It's almost 5:00...he hasn't shown up yet. Will he have a gift, or flowers, or some sort of card? Will it be spontaneous or will it be planned? Will it be hot and steamy tonight or will it be bland and robotic? Some Valentine questions to ponder (after marriage).
Yesterday I took a trip over to the Riverdale plant. The one being demolished so that in the spring they can build a park. (Whoever "they" are.) I got a brick--they had pallets of them everywhere. The rich socialite hightowers pay top dollar for old bricks that came from some old dirty, dusty, dank, damp, musty smelling, cotton mill that sat untouched and empty for five years after laying off its 100 plus employees. They claim that it gives their decor, "character".
I took some good shots of the remaining walls and empty buildings. They haven't torn down the smokestack but the elevator shaft had been ripped out so you could see all the way down to the basement. For the most part, there are some rooms that are still intact. It seems like the workers just punched their cards and left for the day...the carts with the loose cotton are still scattered around the large weaving room. The big looms and weaving machines just sit lifeless. Its a little spooky, all that monstrous equipment (the same ones that have taken many limbs and fingers from former workers) and the huge generators and fans that collect dust and dirt are now home to families of mice and other rodents. It gives an entirely new meaning to "Norma Rae"...its a beautiful place--sad, but beautiful. An enormous industrial graveyard of the Old South. The demolition crew doesn't have much sympathy in the deconstruction process.
Such is life.
Get some rest, tomorrow is another day.
Think McFly, think!
